Google-love (and some Jam)

I love Google.

Coming into work this morning, I was thinking about how best to test some MySQL-using code. “Hmm”, I thought, “I’ll have to run up a local database, initialise it, blah blah blah. Sounds like a pain.”

Popped in to the loo on the way to my desk, and what do I see? A TotT episode all about how to test against a local MySQL database1, including pointers to a shared component to do all the hard setup work for me. I love Google: it’s full of smart people making my job easier.

In other news, I’ll be helping out at the Google London Open Source Jam again tonight, hopefully meeting a lot of nice people and talking about our topic du jour, developer productivity. The event’s full up for tonight, but I’ve just added an Atom feed of events to the signup site that you can subscribe to for notification of future events (in addition to our existing low-traffic Google Group).

  1. I’m guessing this particular TotT episode probably won’t make it out to the public site, but you can find lots of other useful TotT episodes on the Google Testing Blog
